The DropStore is an initiative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. To mark the United Nations Water 2023 Conference, Publicis Groupe teamed up with Neverland to create a digital experience. Neverland took the lead in creating the creative concept for the web-shop and collaborated with the whiz kids of Owow Agency for the development part.
The DropStore: a dystopian and fictional web-shop from the future. While none of the products are actually for sale, each item tells a story from a world in which the emerging water crisis has escalated to previously unimaginable levels. If nothing is done, Too much, Too little and Too dirty water can and will drastically alter access to essential products. From exorbitant prices to minuscule quantities and entirely new products, required for everyday survival, The DropStore serves as a thought-provoking piece, designed to motivate people to think about the complexity of water-related issues and the systemic effects they have on our daily lives.
On the Drop Store’s website, pizza comes in pill form for $163. A bag of rice contains just 5 grains but costs $89. And a 15-milliliter bottle of “pure” water (about 1 tablespoon) will run you $198. If that’s not enough to quench your thirst, there’s also a 20-ounce bottle of “regular” water—but it’s still $199. And it’s brown. These products aren’t real. And yet they portray a future in which our water crisis worsens and water is a rare commodity. They also serve as a reminder that for billions of people around the world, water scarcity or access to clean water is already a pressing issue.
BRAND IDENTITY
The brand identity evolved into a sophisticated graphic system. Drawing from the NL colour palette, we chose to accentuate the usage of electric blue and purple, providing a distinctive and vibrant appearance to the brand identity. The interplay between photography and patterns represents inclusivity, reinforcing the brand's communication throughout one of its core values.
