Based on this necessity, the design was developed around the concept of mirroring. The mirror is meant to reflect the life each person creates, including people, places, and events in the viewer’s life. In accordance with this creative idea, I shaped all brand elements of the brand identity. Visually translating in every detail, the mirror emerges as signature element that makes the brand unique and recognisable.
Laber Nicht Records is a label born from a clear need for expression and confrontation. The goal is to emphasise the power of music as a sophisticated form of dialogue. In fact, music reflects the wide spectrum of society. While everyone is lost in a loop of dialogue, LNR wants to take action to mirror the state of the world. Incorporating this approach into the naming, “Laber Nicht” is a phrase that Germans often use for those who talk about problems but fail to act.
THE MIRROR CONCEPT
The starting point of the project is the phenomenon of mirroring. The mirror has been selected as the appropriate metaphor to represent the label mission and the values. In fact, the label aspire to reflect fragments of our time thought the music of the artist.
LOGO CONCEPT
The logo is a combination of stretched typography and a mark. The typography forms a horizontally shaped element that is combined with a mark placed underneath. A peculiar design choice, isn't it? The reason is twofold: first, it serves as a distinctive element, and second, it directs the viewer's eyes. Placed predominantly at the top of the media, the logo functions like an arrow, pointing towards the contents below.
LOGO MARK
The mark takes shape from the initial letters L & N. The two letters are simplified and unified into one unique sign. Subsequently, the shape has been copied and mirrored to align with the creative concept.
BRAND IDENTITY
The challenge was to create a powerful graphic system that would emphasise the concept. During the research phase, I spent time exploring graphic details to translate the mirror into various brand elements. A monochromatic black and white tonality pervades the identity. The headers are doubled and reflected at the bottom of the layout. Lines are utilised to emphasise text repetition. The identity is strong and bold, echoing the message of "Laber Nicht!”
COVER AND PACKAGING
LABEL STICKERS / LAYOUT
To make the label brand stand out, an innovative choice was applied to the cover layout and packaging. Black and white artworks are combined with shiny stickers. On the printed cover, the use of a silver Pantone highlights the artist's artwork. Indeed, the stickers, printed on holographic paper, are the eye-catching element. These choices strongly benefit the records, bringing back visibility and recognisability.
